Who Are My Target Audience
Brief Intro
I want my target audience to consist of like wise teens like me with the same, interest, fashion sense and also income, initially I wanted to do some research into the target audiences of popular Alternative rap magazines but so far I have failed to find any mainstream magazines that focus solely on Alternative rap, so instead I will be loosely basing my target audience on my friends and I.
Age Group
I want the age group of my target audience to range from a young teen age (like 14) to the age of a young adult (26) this connotes an sense of universal acceptances and appreciations but a problem that could arise from this wide age range could be that I might have to tweak the quality and price of the magazine to conform to a price and quality that could be universally affordable for young adults but also fits into the affordable price range of unemployed young teens, so when creating my magazine I have to be able to tackle creating a high quality and sophisticated magazine that fits into the price range for 14 and 15 year olds.
Teen Vogue is a fine example of what I want my magazine to aspire to be like, its is a high quality and sophisticated magazines aimed an=t fashion loving teens and young adults, although it is high quality its is still aimed at teens to it comes at an affordable price of £3.40 per issue.
Gender
I want the gender of my target audience to be both girls and boys, I want the percentage o be 50% for each gender group, I can achieve this by not designing my magazine to not be overly masculine or overly feminine, in doing this I need to be careful when taking my photographs for my coverstar, if I have a female coverstar I want the overall design and tone of the magazine to neutral so that a teenage boy can still be able to purchase and enjoy the magazine and vise versa for a male coverstar.
Geographical
Since the UK is lacking an Alternative rap scene as well as also lacking in Alternative rappers themselves it would be daft to base my magazine in the UK but since the UK especially London has such a massive fan base I would like to base my publication in London to be the first UK Alternative rap magazine. London is also the hotspot for tons and tons of talented and music loving young youths who I believe can be introduced into the genre through my magazine.
Brands and where they Shop
Since my target audience is based on my friends and I, it seemed highly logical that my target audience shared the same interest as I. The male portion of my demographic would be mostly interesting in purchasing and wearing streetwear brands that had became very popular through alternative rappers showing an interest in the fashion style, these clothing brands consist of brands similar to "Supreme", "Obey", "Hype" and even the Odd future clothing brand.
The Female portion of my demographic could also purchase and wear streetwear but most of them will shop for their clothes at "hipster" clothing store like Urban Outfitters and Topshop. They will also support and wear brands such as Vans and Huffs.
