Focus Magazines : NME and Spin

From my research I have found that Spin and NME focuses more on Alternative rappers than any other music magazine, this outcomes are very useful for my research and planning process because it has notified me of which magazines I should for inspiration when creating my music magazine.
Azelia Banks, an example of a comical rapper

MIA an example of a lyrical rapper

Odd future and Tyler The Creator, all from the same group of comical rappers

*Quick note

Here is a quick PowerPoint explaining how I was able to use the Spin masthead to create this two prototype mastheads.
Masthead 1

Masthead 2
I decided to keep Masthead 1 and ditch Masthead 2 because Masthead 1 seemed more true to the nature of being Alternative/Indie whilst Masthead 2 seemed to neon and something that could be recognized as a pop or dance magazine masthead instead of Alternative.

Note finished*

NME is owned and published by IPC Media who are also the same company responsible for Teen now, an magazine which is juxtaposed to NME in many ways.

IPC media company convention breakdown by Ochuko on GoAnimate

Here is a short animation I created briefly explaining the need for the difference in conventions

Because these two magazines were made to suit different demographic they must have different conventions, this conventions were set so that a reader may be able to tell the genre, style or demographic intended by the publisher just by a quick glance.

The teen Now magazine convention consist of puffs and pugs scattered all over the page, used for catching the attentions of readers to draw them into reading the content. The colour scheme consists of feminine content notifying readers or passerby that this magazine was made for a female demographic. Instead of having a photoshoot for the cover star/s images have been taken from the internet and cropped into the coverage because of lack of money to book celebrities for a photo shoot, connoting that the process of making this magazine was cheap and will be sold cheaply meaning the intended demographic would be those with a small income which will be children/young teens.

The convention of this magazine consist of little to no puff, this indicates that the magazine was intended for a mature audience that do not rely on pugs and puffs to feed their attentions. The colour scheme is simplistic but bold and not bright or juxtaposed coulours or brightly juxtaposed colours used by magazines such as Teen now. This magazine has enough money to book celebrities for both photo shoots and interview so the intended audience is expected to have an income that can support their weekly or monthly purchase of this expensive content.
