Music Magazine Front Cover analysis
The cover page of this issues of NME conveys a very simple but yet loud layout, the main colour and theme of this issue is pink this was done to highlight the fact that the cover-star of this issue is a girl, the colour pink normally connotes a nature and sense of purity and innocence which is juxtaposed by the mise en sense of the cover image; as you can see the mise en sense of this issue depicts MIA who is a rap star to be "flipping a bird" at the readers of this issue; this connotes a sense of alternative and immoral behavior which is highly common in the rap world, MIAs middle fingered is blurred this could have been done almost as a way to draw buyers in to purchase this issue as it can be spotted from far away. This issue follows a convention called the rule of Z which is very effective especially when the cover page is not cluttered with a massive amount of text, the rule of z allows readers to manually read each coverline, word or title in the intended order the editors wanted you to; at first the buyers eyes are drawn to the Masthead which establish not only the title of the magazine but also notifies the readers the genre of this magazine, the Masthead is in bold red which clashes with the pink background of the cover image this connotes that female alternative rappers do not usually consist in the content of this magazine this is evident because it is not likely for editors to allow the colour scheme of their magazine to clash, following the rule of Z the readers eye would then fall to the bottom left corner of the page which is where the editors have placed the barcode and price of the magazine this was done by the editors to inform the readers of the price, and to further persuade the readers to purchase this magazine the editors had placed a cover line at the bottom right of the page where the role of z would direct the readers eyes to follow; placing the cover line in this area was done to enforce the readers to purchase the issue. The cover line reads "You just can't take her anywhere can you?" this coverline highlighs and connotes the very mischievous behavior of the coverstar which was done to allow the chosen demographic of this issue relate to her inappropriate and mischievous behavior, because of this it is evident that the chosen demographic of this issues consist of mostly rowdy and rebellious teenagers aged between 15-21 who are very strong believers in independence from the members of society who are condescending towards their behavior and entertainment.
